About summers at Yale-Myers Forest: Yale-Myers Forest (YMF) is a magical and fun place to spend the summer. It’s located in the heart of the “Quiet Corner," a rural pocket of Southern New England, with a dense network of hiking trails and swimming holes. The camp cook is considered a cornerstone part of the YMF community, providing good vibes and simple, balanced, and filling meals that bring together researchers, the forest crew, and YMF staff after exhausting days in the field. Camp life is bustling in the summertime, featuring movie nights, volleyball games, an annual talent show, a Fourth of July party, and more! Beyond camp social life, the camp cook will enjoy the freedom to explore YMF’s 8,000 acres of New England forest and the surrounding lakes, trails, and ice cream shops. Responsibilities: The camp cook is responsible for feeding 25-30 people during our summer field season. The camp cook prepares hot dinner Monday through Thursday and provides groceries for camp residents to make their own breakfast and lunch. The camp cook purchases groceries weekly for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from pooled funds (summer residents opt-in to a weekly food contribution). The cook sets their own menu with respect to dietary restrictions of camp residents. The Yale-Myers Camp has a commercial kitchen, and the cook must complete the ServeSafe Food Manager Certification prior to the start date. Camp residents are responsible for doing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen after each meal, but the cook has supervisory responsibility for these tasks. Location: Yale-Myers Forest in Eastford, CT.
